Match Report – Round 4 Thirroul Vs Corrimal

On a cold and windy Ziems park, a new look Butchers side defeated Corrimal 18 -10 to keep their undefeated run to the season intact and lead the competition after 4 rounds. With several key players rested and positional changes made, The Butchers weren’t as impressive as the first three rounds and would be happy to get the points yesterday. Corrimal never gave up and at 12- 10 Thirrouls way in the second half, the cougars attacked the Butchers line for several sets, only for the solid Butchers goal line defence to hold them out.

Jay Gallagher, Chris Astill and Damian Blanche scored tries in the first half which were unconverted before Front Rower Micheal Blackwell broke a seven year try scoring duck by crashing over from short range to seal the win for Thirroul.

The Butchers will need to lift a few gears when they face competition heavyweights West at Gibson Park next weekend, Wests defeated undefeated comp leaders Helensburgh to put Thirroul 1st and West 2nd on the ladder leading into this weeks match.

A breakthrough win for the Butchers u/19’s Colts who won their first competition points for the year with a 34 – 16 win over Corrimal. Captain Jake Seargant Wilson said the boys played well and are starting to gel as a team but will need to improve to beat the better teams. Jakes pick for best players were Jarrad Whitty, Lachlan Stein and Jackson Te Haara
