After a few weeks of mixed results for all grades, the boys ran in over 150 points between the grades in a try scoring feast at Gibson Park. The points racked up and wins will be vital for Thirrouls attempt to win the club Championship in 2014
Bob Sheeley almost lost his voice calling out the names of try scorers with Under 19’s winning 36 – 28, Reserve Grade demolishing the cougars 68 – 0 and First Grade are back on track with a 58-14 trouncing with Sam Clune scoring a hat trick and Leigh Higgins bagging two tries on debut.
Under 19’s started off the blitz with a shaky 36 – 28 win over last placed Corrimal. The 19’s are starting to find some form and are still within range of the top sides. Another big effort from the boys who backed up and played reserve grade after a big game in 19’s, reserve grade would have struggled to field a side without the 19’s standing by and once on the field, the 19 year olds scored and set up quite a few tries, well done boys.
Reserve Grade took aadvantage of a 3 week upcoming break and other results going Thirrouls way to pile on some vital for and against points to go back to first place.
Thirroul didnt have a bad player, Luke Gallagher playing at five eighth was outstanding while Julian David pulled of a tackle which would contend for hit of the year in any grade. Jayden Dallalana was on fire from hooker while Club President/Player/Reserve Grade Captain Mitch Bate was one of the butchers best, scoring tries and kicking goals as well. Matt Syron played his usual strong game up front and Joe Mcdevitt was on fire from the back.
The Butchers ran out in first grade knowing that Corrimal had given front runners Helensburgh a scare recently, the Butchers were missing Captain/Coach Nathan Fien and ran out a few new faces but despite an early try to Corrimal, The Butchers were in control and ran in a huge score. Sam Clune continued his recent form with some long range tries, Logan Harris was close to Thirrouls best at hooker, Luke Dodge was enormous coming off the bench making several line breaks and offloading for tries, Ty McCarthy returned to form at five eighth while on debut Leigh Higgins scored two great tries. Jake Walsh continued to show his skills with a deft kicking game and several last passes for tries. Aaron Beath carted the ball up strongly all game and showed the young butchers pack how its done.
The Butchers move back into second and with a break and then a run into the semi finals with a near full strength team, the butchers are in a great position and will push for a first or second place finish to ensure a good crack at winning another title.
