Match Report – Round 3 Thirroul Vs Dapto

The Butchers took on the Canaries in all three grades yesterday and although First Grade continued thier unbeaten start to the season, Reserve Grade fielded a near Frist Grade team and crushed Dapto by 50, the most pleasing result for the club was in the Under 19’s game. Thirroul ran on to the field with only 10 players against 13,a huge battle to face a full side which showed a lot of heart just to run out rather than forfeit. Not only did the young Butchers match them with 3 less players, they were leading 10 – 6 just before half time. Dapto ran away in the second half when fatigue took over but the club is very proud of all the boys who will learn a lot from the game and with several key players to return, this team could be a dark horse later in the year.

Reserve Grade ran out with a team which included more than 10 players with first grade experience, showing the depth of the club and how competative spots are in the club at the moment. Coach Jarrod Costello was pleased with the result and points scored but found plenty to work on when facing stronger sides in the comp. Luke Gallagher was outstanding, Andrew Mccarthy was ruthless in defence Jake Walsh and Ty McCarthy showed glimpses of thier skills.

First grade showed patience and sold goal line defence to continue their fine start to the season. Thirroul made several unforced errors on their own line only to hold strong and limit Dapto to one try for the game. The Butchers faced a much bigger Dapto pack but were up to the task and tackled everything that the Canaries could throw at them. Damian Blanche created havoc out wide several times and formed a solid combination with Denan Kemp. Nathan Wynn gave the Dapto fullback nightmares with his deft kicks and towering bombs,i think he ran away from the last one, Jay Gallagher played his usual high work rate and hard running game while Pat Franks, Brent Grose and Nathan Fien all had solid games.
